WEIL'S DISEASE AND CRYPTOSTORIDIUM

We always provide information about these diseases as a sensible precaution. For Weil’s disease, human infection occurs through exposure to water contaminated by infected animal urine or by direct or indirect contact with infected urine. In the UK, such exposure can include activities such as canoeing, windsurfing, swimming in lakes and rivers etc.

If caught this can result in a type of CHILL or an ATTACK OF 'FLU. IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS. If symptoms occur after boating contact your G.P. quickly and ask for a test for Weil's disease (an ELISA blood test).

Cryptostoridium is a parasite recently found to be present in streams and rivers and can cause illness. The chances of catching either disease would seem slight particularly if the following precautions are taken:

* Wash or shower after boating activities.

* Cover minor scratches on exposed parts of the body with waterproof plaster.

* Do not drink any pond ...

2020 Offshore Sailing Weekend
Where: Solent on Board Thermopylae
Hi All

We have again the opportunity to take part in a weekend afloat on Thermopylae a 60" Clipper in or around the Solent, in June next year year (2020).

A brilliant opportunity to experience a weekend sailing in a large ocean-going yacht!

This is a professionally crewed boat, staffed by fully qualified (Scouting and RYA commercial Royal Yacht Association qualifications) skippers.

We will take two 36th leaders.

At this point I am sounding out parents to see if there is enough interest to pursue further.

We can offer nine places on Thermopylae Clipper

The cost will be around £140 per person which would include berth fee, food, use of suitable waterproofs, moorings and fuel, as well as transport on the scout minibus, the only additional cost would be personal spending money.  This reflects a special price for Scout Groups.

Please reply ASAP if you think your scout may be interested, as I have only provisionally booked the dates subject to ...

AT THRIFTWOOD CAMPSITE BRENTWOOD

We will be holding our Weekend Camp at Thriftwood Scout Campsite at Brentwood from Friday 26th June to Sunday 28th June. On site number 1

The camp will run from Friday evening about 6.30 pm to 3.30 pm Sunday afternoon and will be an opportunity for younger Scouts and older Cubs to take part in a camp, as well as for the more  experienced Scouts to help run the camp.  The camp will be combined with a district activity day, so there will be a lot more activities available than we could normally organise, including; 3D Maze, Climbling, Abseiling, Cresta Run, Crossbows, Demolition Derby, Rifle Shooting  and Zipline and many more!! as well as the normal Scout camp routine.  The camp will start and finish at Thriftwood. We will not be providing any transport from All Saints.
