WEIL'S DISEASE AND CRYPTOSTORIDIUM

We always provide information about these diseases as a sensible precaution. For Weil’s disease, human infection occurs through exposure to water contaminated by infected animal urine or by direct or indirect contact with infected urine. In the UK, such exposure can include activities such as canoeing, windsurfing, swimming in lakes and rivers etc.

If caught this can result in a type of CHILL or an ATTACK OF 'FLU. IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS. If symptoms occur after boating contact your G.P. quickly and ask for a test for Weil's disease (an ELISA blood test).

Cryptostoridium is a parasite recently found to be present in streams and rivers and can cause illness. The chances of catching either disease would seem slight particularly if the following precautions are taken:

* Wash or shower after boating activities.

* Cover minor scratches on exposed parts of the body with waterproof plaster.

* Use footwear to avoid c...

36TH E.F.S.  2019  SCOUT SUMMER CAMP

Friday23rd August–Saturday 31st August 2019

LES MAINGYS SCOUT CAMPSITE, GUERNSEY

We are planning to go to Guernsey for next year’s Scout Summer Camp. Our Group has held regular camps at this site since 1980, the last was in 2016. Scouts have always rated the camps in Guernsey as the best camps they have attended as it provides a unique environment.

We would camp at Les Maingys Scout Campsite in the north west of the island. The site itself has several camping fields, together with a shower block and sports hall, and is well situated close to the coast.

We will use a standing camp which comes complete with a large mess tent and separate kitchen tent.

There are  various on-site activities including canoeing, archery, climbing high ropes and hatchet throwing etc, although we normally undertake a completely different “sea-side” type camp programme. BBQ’s on beaches and crab catching etc! The Island has great sandy bea...
